A lot and too little space to go into it. Yes one of the most brilliant ancient civilisations that flourished for over 4000 years. Home of the pyramids( the only survivals of the eight wonders of the ancient world). It's sovereignty came to an end with the fall of Egypt to the Greeks of Alexander. Alexander is offered the title of Pharaoh. For the next 300 years Egypt is ruled by the Ptolemies. Then the end comes with the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra(the last of the Ptolemies to rule) in the naval battle of Aktion. Egypt becomes a province of Rome then Byzantium and eventually is taken over by the Arabs. In the process Egypt loses its language and therefore its culture and religion. At some point the Turks take over. By the early 19th century an Albanian born in Kavala(Greece) and serving as a general in the Turkish army takes over Egypt for his own. His name Mohammad Ali. That is the beginning of modern Egypt. His legacy does not last long as Egypt becomes a British protectorate and stays like that till the early 1950's when Gamal Abdul Nasser kicks out king Faruk and the Brits. So as you see Egypt has been under foreign occupation or influence for the last 2000 years. The birth place of the Islamic brotherhood and Islamic fundamentalists. Nasser used them to get into power but then tried to control them and finally outlawed them. Got involved and lost two wars with Israel and finally made a deal with the USA, got the Sinai back from the Israelis, a substantial yearly aid from the US and in return recognised the state of Israel. Which brings to today.

that it is home to one of the first civilizations . that the Pharaohs fan bearers where often his closest friends or family. that he kings main wife had amazing amounts of power. that women where able to divorce their husbands, own property, run an independent business, and attend court long before Greece designed the Acropolis That the Egyptians did not really worship cats(that was a rumor spread by the Greeks) but saw them as good luck.that the people who built the pyramids where not slaves but average farmers called upon to do work as a form of tax. they where also paid in food such as fish, bread, beef( a rare delicacy) and onions. that ancient Greeks took tours of Egypt and saw ancient monuments like the pyramids even when a Pharaoh reined. that the language spoken in the Coptic church is the same language spoken in ancient Egypt, but with different writing. Cleopatra was almost entirely Greek. our calender is based on the Egyptian one that was modified by the Romans. that Ciro's total population is about the same as Australia.
etc.

It is a historically rich country, as is Iraq :) Coptic Egyptians are also persecuted in Egypt as are Assyrian Christians in Iraq. Egypt and Iraq have more than ancient history in common. And also, Egyptians (modern) are the best belly dancers.
