tiger barbs do best in groups of at least 3. they can be aggressive to other fish.
i like tiger barbs because they are colorful, they swim a lot, they school and then break up, then quarrel amongst themselves, then regroup, then break up. it makes for an interesting aquarium.
i've got about 8 tiger barbs in my 55 gallon tank now. i'm going to get a bunch more, probably a dozen more. watching these guys is more fun than watching a solitary angelfish parade slowly back and forth.
the little hump backed catfish are good to put with a barb. the barbs don't pay much attention to what's on the bottom, they are more of a mid to upper level fish. the little cats do a good job of cleaning up the bottom of your tank as well.

This colorful barb is frequently chosen for a community tank, unfortunately they are not an ideal choice for all aquariums. When kept singly or in groups of two three, they will terrorize almost any fish that is unfortunate enough to reside in the same tank. Yet if they are kept in groups of a half dozen or more, they will usually keep their quarreling to themselves. Regardless of the numbers kept, it is never advisable to keep Tigers in the same tank with docile, slow moving, or long finned fish such as Angelfish or Bettas. For a striking display, set up a species-specific tank with a half dozen of each color variation, complimented by live plants. When well cared for, Tiger Barbs have a life span of five to seven years.

get a sucker fish. I had one of the most dangerous fish (a jack dipsi) Ok ok there not dangerous, but there very agressive! The jack dipse and him got along great. I suggest a normal sized one.
there good, clean the tank, and just cool to have.
note- If they start to fight take it out! its a cruel thing to not do anything. think of them and if you were in there... fins... good luck!
