I've heard that the government in England have said Scotland is using too much electricity and mostly because we have too many street lights! So they're trying to get a law passed to get the lights turned off at night. What will they think of next? I used to live in London & at night it was terrible, the street lights were never on.

Yes - I thought we passed our own laws. It seems to be a rumour flying around Glasgow.

Ian the Orn: it's because of people like you that the hatred between the English & the Scots continues.

Has the English government not taken enough revenue off of Scotland's oil? Now there wanting to cut the bleeding electric supply to! What next? starve Scotland out of their existence probably, since the price to by food is greater in Scotland as it is elsewhere in the UK.

Scotland has its own and its own parliment, and if the English pass a law saying that Scotland must turn its lights off, then that is just stupid, I'm from the English side of the border, and what Scotland does is its own bussiness. England doesn't make the rules in Scotland. Let Scotland decide its own future, as is the Scots right to do so!

There is no English Government, Englands future is decided by a mixture of English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland MPs.
I heard something about turning off street lights at midnight, but that was being discussed by a local council in Essex, not by Parliament or the Scottish Assembly. Street lighting is controlled by Local Authorities, not on a national basis.

lol...the English? Most of the people in the cabinet are Scottish MPs...& they can pass laws HERE that don't apply to Scotland.
So I think you have it ar se about t it.
PS As someone else said - wouldn't this be down to local councils anyway?...
That's enough now...I'm just turning your lights out.

It's not a law, it's a request. The people of Berwick can't get to sleep with all the blazing light flying across the border.

Don't be stupid.
Scotland sets its own laws through its own parliament.
As for streetlights being off, thats even more stupid, they have to be on for road safety.
