It just started raining and thundering. I'm sitting here on the computer. Will my computer crash?

You should unplug it just incase the power goes out, because when it comes back it could send a power surge to ur computer and you could lose ur memory on ur PC.

If you have a GOOD protective powerstrip then it will have a voltage spike on it that will prevent the damaging current from getting to the computer...BUT, I've heard of cases that that didn't help enough in a bad lightining storm and the computer was FRIED by the millions of volts traveling up the line...(happened to a friend of mine last year)
Best to unplug the computer until after the bad lightining is done...that's what I always do just in case....

Well, contrary to popular belief, just shutting down your PC wont keep it from getting wiped out! You would have to physically disconnect it from the wall receptacle and the internet connection! A lightening strike doesnt give a hoot whether your PC is on or off!

It is unsafe to have your computer plugged in during a thunderstorm,
you should have it on a surge protector to be safe.


Your computer could do more than crash,
it could fry the motherboard.

Get a spike protector for power and phone lines.

It all depends, does ur computer have a protecter? If so ur ok then if not then I'd get off just 2 be shure it dosen't get damaged!!!

if power goes out then yes, I use a laptop so I don't care if it goes out or not :) only Internet would go offline, get UPS power protection
