I've had this Beta for 2 wks he's been doing fine since I got him.
But when I had him in the little jar by himself I had to change the water almost everyday,(because it stayed cloudy (not from overfeeding) (and put in new conditioner), Earlier this week I bought a 10 gallon tank with 2 sucker fish.
I put in the water conditioner when I set the tank up..
The water is still cloudy and it looks as tho the beta has Fuzz (like cotton) starting to grow on him.
I done some research, and it says it takes almost 1 month for the tank to get right..
I've had tanks before and NEVER had this problem.
Also,
The Beta before this one, started to grow fuzz on him and died pretty quick, I saw him swimming that morining and by that afternoon found him at the bottom of the tank dead, he looked like a cotton ball.
Another note...The 1st Beta I never saw eat.
and I did NOT get them from the same place.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Get your Betta out of that tank immediately.

First:
Set up a "hospital" tank - a one gallon square type container is perfect for this. I don't know what kind of water you've been using, tap or bottled. If it's tap and you haven't "aged" it, get some bottled water. To your normal water conditioner add one teaspoon of aquarium salt and a 1/2 teaspoon of Coppersafe.

You will be doing more frequent water changes. I recommend every other day always using the same exact ingredients and amounts.

Second:
Your Betta also needs meds right away. From what you describe he has either Columnaris or Fungus. There are a number of products on the market to treat that condition. Most of them work equally well. I've had good results with Mardel Maracyn-One.
Whichever product you choose, follow the directions on the package.

I hope this helps. Email me if you have other questions.

the cottony groth probably started at the mouth from a sore. any open sore in unkempt water will get infected, in this case, with a fungus. remember that you should let your tank set for 24 hours if u dont use chemicals when setting it up or at lest 12 hrs w/ chemicals before releasing the fish into the enviroment. Please remove your betta from the tank and set into a seperate tank, so as not to infect your other fish. next time when buying a beta, look at the other fish around it and at the fish itself to check for ne sign of disease.

Something wrong with the water or something wrong with the tank.

there could be fungus or something in the water that betas are alergic to.
