Sonograms are rather expensive and insurance typically will not cover them unless you have some better reason for having one. So, be prepared to pay cash. Also, while ultrasound is generally considered safe for unborn children, this is not entirely known, so most physicians will be slightly reluctant to do unnecessary exams.
The later in your pregnancy that you have a sonogram, the more likely it will be able to accurately predict the sex of your child. It all depends on whether they see a penis or not. If the radiologist sees a distinct penis, then they will tell you its a boy. If they don't see one early in a pregnancy, they are slower to tell you its a girl because the penis may be there and not in a position to be seen easily.
Amniocentesis can determine your child's sex, but it has some risks and discomfort. I would not do it unless there were other reasons, like making sure the lungs were mature in the presence of what appears to be early labor. Knowing the sex of your child can help you prepare for a few things, but its just not THAT important.
Keep busy. There's lots to know about raising babies that is not dependent on their sex. Too much idle time can lead to anxiety and obsessions. May God bless you, your child, and your family. Congratulations!

Get an amnio. They are alot more accurate than sonograms and you get the results back in a few days.

My sister and I did the "Drano" test. You will need a sample of your urine and a very small amount of "Drano" crystals. NOTE:DO THIS TEST OUTSIDE IN FRESH AIR THE SMELL IS AWFUL!!!! Anyway pour your urine over the crystals if they turn a dark brown or black color it's a boy and if they do not change or color change just slightly it's a girl. I know it sounds CRAZY but she and I both did it and we had the exact sex the crystals indicated!!!

Join the club! The doctor has to tell you whether he sees an outie pee pee or an innie pee pee via the ultrasound. I am about 5 mths too, and it is driving me nuts! I want to buy baby stuff!

before ultrasound you had to wait until the baby was born to find out if it was a boy or girl, waiting another month or two shouldn't be a big deal
