Try Ballroom and Latin. It is a lot of fun. Salsa and swing are close enough to it, so you can dance it all! Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba, Jive - it's all good! I find it more fun to be able to dance different dances one after another, rather than just dancing one dance for 1 or 2 hours.

It seems like a lot to learn at the beginning, but don't get intimidated - it is actually pretty easy. You'll be dancing them all before you know it.

I took a beginners ballroom class (waltz foxtrot tango rhumba cha cha and east coast swing) and before the semester was out I was also auditing additional classes that added merengue, salsa, mambo, Charleston, Jitterbug, Lindy Hop and off campus: Argentine Tango. Yeah I know: 13 dances in one semester, but it was a lot of fun (and still is). Ballroom dancing is "dancing with a partner" There are lots of variations, but they're still "with a partner".

Here the two dances that have their own communities and the most activities around those two dances are salsa and argentine tango, with the Argentine Tango community being more active, but in your area, your mileage may vary.

They're all fun. I've danced folk, historical (15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th century) ballroom and peasant dances.

Well I went in one evening to a country line dance class to check it out on the suggestion of a friend. That was in 1999. I had never lined danced before and I just love it! The added benefit.......it has toned my legs, kept my weight stable and I have met so many great folks......local people who are now friends.

I always found the swing era to be exciting. How about some swing dancing classes? It's also a great way to meet people.

Why not try dancing to hip-hop? This would be a good form of exercise regardless of whether you have a dance partner or not.
