You don't indicate why it fails the emissions test. Is it for one of the gasses, or is it because of functional or visual failure?
Is the "Check Engine" light on, or has it come on?
If so the first step is to retrieve the Diagnostic Trouble codes, and work through the diagnostics for each of the codes ands complete the repairs indicated b the diagnostics.
NOTE-------->The codes indicate a failure in a circuit or system, and NOT necessarily a failure of a particular component. If the diagnostics show a failed component, replace it. But DON'T stand back and throw a bunch of parts (pronounced MONEY) at the car hoping to "fix" the problem.
If there are no failure codes, then it is time to get down and dirty and run the "old school" diagnostics addressing the symptoms and signs in a thoughtful and logical manner (leaving the shotgun in the closet).
If this is beyond your ability, or time doesn't permit, it is time to bite the bullet and take it to a REPUTABLE repair facility.
Good Luck

Clogged catalytic converter, clogged EGR valve, and/or dry-rotted vaccum lines. Replace those 3 items and it should fix your trouble. Replace the vaccum lines 1 at a time so you don't lose track of where they go. Good luck.

i own a repair shop,,and you need to have it checked out,,it may need a real good tune up before it will run good enough to pass the test,,if one s not running good it will not pass the test at all,,a smooth running engine will pass the test a lot easier than a rough running one,,have it looked at,,and it may just be something simple wrong with it,good luck i hope this help,s.
