~Pro: It increases sales and circulation of the book immeasurably.
Con: It makes it harder than all get out to find a copy of the book.

I can think of no pros for banning ANYTHING; the cons are that those doing the banning begin putting their agenda into the lives of everyone else, these same people are usually the most closed minded and narrow of all on the earth and many probally have some form of mental illness if the truth be known. If I had to and was really pressed i would say the only pro there would be is that if heating oil gets too expensive this winter these lunatics could stay warm from all the books they're burning!

I'm against the idea of censorship of the media, and that definitely means against banning books. The only possible pros of such a thing are for the small-minded people who try to ban books in the first place.

Banned books are supposed to "protect" people from the undesirable or a conflict of information. But banned books is more government or church control over something they should have no business in. Without a free press, a country is not free.

There is nothing good about banning books. Just because someone does not want to read a certain book or have their kids read a certain book for whatever reason, they have no right to restrict others from having easy access to that book so that they can read it if they want. Even kids should not be restricted by their parents opinions. Parents can tell their kids not to read a certain book, but the librarian should not be the one held responsible to keep that child away from that book to help uphold the parents' wishes. If a kid wants to read a certain book in a library, no one has any right to stop them.

There are no Pros to banning books. Zero. If you don't like a book, don't read it. Problem solved. No book should ever be banned.

Pro: it is ridiculous to say literature will not flourish unless all authors can write whatever bawdry and blasphemy they like. There was censorship in Shakespeare's day and also in Dickens's.
Con: What gives someone else the right to say what I can and can't read?

I do not believe in banned books, we should all have the freedom to read what we want.
