a good question...it's a mystery of the nature....
from what i've heard, whales need their fatty tissue to survive like humans and other organisms in the animal kingdom. they are mammals (warm blooded) living in the cold sea. with a thick layer of adipose tissues under their skin, they can collect heat. and the adipose tissue also act as energy storage unit. fat are burned to get the heat and energy.

they are animals. their bodies are different from ours. theyre capable of swimming and not change their structure at all, except when theyre growing.
