I'm married, and have unprotected sex with my husband but I'm taking Loestrin 24 for birth control and have been on it since July. Haven't had any spotting between periods until just recently. Just last month I started school and my schedule changed, and I wasn't taking my pill at the same EXACT time every day and I missed a couple of days in the month but not consecutively. I spotted about 1 week before my period and attributed it to having been irregular with my pills. I had a normal 4 day period then started taking my active pills again but missed the second one in the pack. I took it the next day with my next pill, but because I missed it, I started bleeding again for one more day. 1.5 weeks later I started spotting, but very lightly. At first it was only visible when I wiped. This occurred 2 days after having sex with my hubby. The spotting is still ocurring and I'm on my third day of it. What could this be? Would this be ovulation bleeding? I have been having some cramps too.

As of yesterday I started feeling like I was getting sick. Light headed and congestion. Possibly a fever, but now I'm starting to feel better. The spotting hasn't changed much other than lightening up a tad bit.

I forgot to mention that last month, if I forgot a pill, I would take it the next day with the next one.

I might also add, that I have previously bled inbetween periods when I was on another pill, but that was due to the fact that after consulting with my gyno she suggested I take 3 months of active pills to avoid my periods for 3 months and that didn't work too well for me... I have never had spotting like this when I'm taking my pills on time.

Could this be caused by an ovarian cyst? I was told a year ago that I had one but the doctor never told me to follow up. They found out about it when I had kidney stones.

It's hard to tell if the pill casuing the problems, or that fact that you haven't been taking them consistently - it could be ovulation spotting, or it could be implantation bleeding (meaning you're pregnant). Take a pregnancy test to make sure. Continue taking the pills at the same time every day - try and work out way to remind yourself. I take mine at noon everyday, so if I've accidentally left them at home, then it's still less than twelve hours late when I get home, and I have until midnight to remember. I have a reminder on my cellphone and computer at work, and I keep my pills in my wallet.

I would go get your female things checked. It could be many things from stress, a cist on your ovaries or in the worst case scenario your husband has cheated and brought you home an STD. Visit you local Gynecologist.
