This is kinda funny timing, cause I thought of this toy just yesterday, while driving past a construction site!

My favortie toy(s) were my two tonka trucks my father gave me.

I have no idea when he gave them to me, or why, but I know I had them when I was about seven.

I was a VERY VERY Tom-boy, all into climbing trees, riding bikes, playing in the dirt, etc.

I have NO IDEA what the one truck was called, but I do know it is a construction vehicle made by Tonka. (I found a pic on the web : http://a1494.g.akamai.net/7/1494/5949/c27868d621e4f1/babiestoday.com/graphics/truck.jpg If some one can let me know what it is called...)

He also gave me a Tonka Dump Truck.

I remember burning up my knees in the sandbox with these...

We were so poor...I didn't have a single toy. Whenever our Mom sent us dolls from Germany- our aunt would put them inside a glass cabinet- she put them in there for show.
I had one toy, though....it was a mechanical toy as big as my hand with two chickens pecking alternately.... unfortunately I lost it. Man,...I loved that toy. Now my kids are overwhelmed with toys.... they don't appreciate toys at all...once they have it- they forget about it. I'm glad I wasn't spoiled, because we made our own toys out of things that were available... and that chicken toy was the only one that was bought and I truly owned. That was definitely my favorite one.

My mom's 45 record player and all her collection of 45's. The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, The Sly Family Stone, The Monkees (I know they weren't a real band, but I had to include them), and well, you get the idea. I would play these songs over and over and sing and dance around the room on rainy and sometimes sunny afternoons. It was my favourite toy.

Then there was my teddy, "Bear". We communicated telepathically. But that's another story.

This big freaking toy gun I got for Christmas in 1965, it shot bullets and grenades and it had a detachable stock and like a tripod, I doubt they could still manufacture and sell such a thing nowadays. I don't think I have to tell you why. What does that mean, psychologically speaking?

My favorite toy before I turned 3 was my Raggedy Ann doll. I don't know why she was my favorite, but I loved her so much. It was so traumatic for me when she got worn out, fell apart, and had to be thrown away. After that, I had a little gray kitten named Smokey that I took everywhere with me. I believed she was my best friend and I talked to her constantly.

Big Track. It was the first programmable computer tank/toy thingy. It also made those beepy computer sounds and fired a "photon" lazer that consisted of a bright flashlight type beam. I thought that was so cool. Now you can just buy an XBOX and blow up an entire planet.

From the sad, but true, vault. But, it was a toy, that I never 'got'. As a kid, my parents didn't believe in buying toys (*rarely) I always wanted a Pitiful Pearl Doll. I now, shower my sons, and grandchildren with toys, and gifts, whenever, possible, but I never got my hands on my own doll.
