A bit of information-----
Your car is a 2000. ALL cars sold in America from 1996 on MUST follow the OBD II (On-Board Diagnostics, generation 2) protocol.
The "Check Engine" light will come on ONLY when the computer (PCM) identifies a failure in a circuit or system that has the potential to cause emissions to rise beyond acceptable levels.
It can be something as innocuous as a loose fuel cap, or as seemingly unrelated to emissions as a vehicle speed sensor (no speedometer).
Changing something related to the turn-signal switch or flasher shouldn't have caused the MIL to come on. It IS possible however that he might have got caught in a wire or connection, and caused a disconnect, but it isn't likely.
Ask that the codes (DTCs) be retrieved, and address them logically, with proper diagnostics. DON"T stand back and throw money at the problem. If the code directs you to a particular circuit, DIAGNOSE the circuit, don't just throw a part at it. The part may be fine, but a connector has become corroded, and a new part won't repair the problem

Good Luck

right, Take it to Autozone, and they will diagnose it for free, like JCBullDozer said in the answer above.

If the engine had a momentary problem, it can set a trouble code.
If the problem corrects itself, then the light will go out after you start and operate the car and let it cool off a bit, 3 times or so depending on manufacturer of the ECU.

You might of had some water in your fuel, or some other minor problem, and it could clear it self after you run the car a few times.

By the way, Autozone can clear the code for you.

If you are low on any fluid such as windshield wiper solution, radiator overflow tank, power steering fluid, break fluid, you already mentioned gas cap.
If the problem persists, and you dont go to Autozone, try swapping the gas cap with another vehicle.

Check under the hood for loose vacuume hoses. Start the engine, and listen for a sucking sound.

Check your water pump carefully, and look for leaks. When the water pump fails, it usually makes some squeeling sounds when the engine is started cold, but usually stops after warming up.
When it is really bad, it sounds like a pack of marbles in a tumbler. Water pumps begin to leak, at the bearing seal, because the bearings begin to wear the raceway, and the whole bearing pack becomes loose. Bearings may fall out.
When it starts to get bad, the pump leaks water at the seal because the bearings have shifted. You might not notice at first, but the water will spray up to the distributer, and spark plug wires.
These will corrode, and lead to the engine running rough, and the engine light comes on.

Another thing is water in the fuel cell. Water can condense in the fuel tank, or gets there by contaminated fuel. Water doesnt mix with gasoline very well, and can lead to the engine running rough, or haveing hard starts.
You can buy $1 drygas at autozone or whereever. It is just alcohol, but water mixes with alcohol, and alcohol mixes with gasoline, so water mixes with gasoline, and the problem goes away. Knock Sensor.

Check your headlights, and marker lights. Modern cars have sense lines connected to each light, to know when the load has opened.

The best thing to do is go have someone retrieve the codes from the ECM. Autozone or Advance does this for free. If you dont have either of those places then you have to go to a reputable repair facility that has the capabilities to retrieve those codes. Your year model has a OBD II system, Unlike earlier models, a code scanner must be used to retrieve codes. Have this done then go from there. You said that you just had your car worked on, anything is possible being how complicated today's cars are getting.

Write down the code or codes carefully The auto parts store tells you, and if you have time write down the freeze frame data too. I don't think a turnsignal combo switch can cause a check engine light. so get back to us and I will look up the code number for you.

Could be anything or nothing at all. Your best bet is to take it back and have it checked out or wait and see what happens. Either way it's going to cost you money. Could be another sensor or maybe the sensor they put in was bad. If you don't trust the place you took it to, try another place.

It is probably just a code that needs cleared after havinf your sensor replaced.

Take it back to the shop and they should check it out for you.
