Why do you have to keep talking? A companionable silence for a while can be lovely. :) Don't feel you have to force the conversation.
To answer your question though, I guess it depends on what you've already discussed, but... plans for the weekend, or if you're in someone's house ask about a picture or ornament or something that catches your eye. Or you could ask their advice about something that you know they're interested in: eg if they're interested in photography, say a friend's got a birthday coming up and you wanted to buy them a camera or book about photography and what would they recommend...(even if such a person doesn't exist; the point is simply to get the conversation flowing again.)
