Dating him out of pity isn't nice either. You have to tell him no. Or you could make the first move and preemptively reject him by talking about some other boy you have your eye on.

Tell him that you think he is a really nice guy, but you cant see you two more than friends. You dont have to be mean, but that guy has troubles if he is always crying.

You must be true to yourself; tell him he's a nice dude and that you are flattered by his attention but that your not interested in a serious relationship right now...any tears shoud be ignored...they are emotional blackmail.

it totally looks like you're desperate. which is bad. don't say NO say just that he's nice and good-looking (even if it's not true) but you can't go out cause you just know it wouldn't work out!! and that he's better off with some other girl that digs him. oh and next time don't sound so pathetic/stupid

Don't be emotionally blackmailed. If you don't want to date the guy, you don't want to date the guy. He'll have to get over it and find someone else.

first thing try to tell him sutley that you guys are just friends, or maybe tell him you aren't over your last boyfriend yet, or try to get him interested in someone else.
