to use the 3D studiomax program and the rendering thing with no trouble whatsoever?
What's best of these two then what's best in general?

For 3D studiomax you would absolutely want the dual-core, that is that type of program that gets the most benefit from havign multiple cores, so definately go with the dual-core.
