why is she paying?...pregnant women can go on Medicaid while pregnant..the yearly income guidelines are greatly increased for pregnant women...so unless they make a lot of money then she will probably qualify...she can always write a letter to the hospital after she gives birth and most of them will cut a deal with her.

I got the invoice with all charges listed (insurance paid) not long ago. For everything in an uncomplicated birth it was well over 13 thousand $. I live in FL. If she can afford that out of pocket, fantastic! If she anticipates she'll have trouble paying it she should contact her county health department. Medicaid for pregnant women in florida is very helpful for those who need it and covers everything usualy.
I hope your friend has a wonderful brith experience!

The national average for a regular uncomplicated vaginal birth is around 4000 dollars. The national average for a c section is twice that amount.

Thats what I found when i researched it. I just wondered what people without insurance pay.

They pay too much :)
