The first thing that popped into my head was "He wants you too Malachi!!!" from Children of the Corn.

The second is Malachi McCourt, Frank McCourt's brother.

Third is Malachi Constant from some Kurt Vonnegut novel read years ago....

I'm not liking it unless you want something really unusual....and you son will be teased and called "Mal" which is Spanish for evil.

I don't know about Children of the Corn or the Biblical meaning, but Malachi is a good Scottish name, and I love it! It can be pronounced "Malak-ee" or "Malak-eye"...whichever you prefer, and there are a couple spellings to choose from. Look it up on babynamesworld.com or something similar.

My sister and I both keep name lists, with all the boy & girl names we like...partly because it's fun, and partly so we can bounce our ideas off each other from time to time. Anyways, the name Malachi is on both our lists...we love it.

OMG!! I love the name Malachi! My husband says the same thing though. He says that it reminds him of children of the corn. Malachi was one of the last prophets and was really used by God. The name actually means Messenger of God.

Awesome name!
MALACHI
Gender: Masculine

Usage: Biblical, Jewish

Other Scripts: מַלְאָכִי (Hebrew)

Pronounced: MAL-a-kie [key]

Means "my messenger" or "my angel" in Hebrew. This was one of the minor prophets in the Old Testament, the author of the Book of Malachi, which some claim foretells the coming of Christ.

Biblical names are rich in meaning-my son is Theophilus. If you are unsure on the name, really talk it over with your husband-you should both agree on it. It is a wonderful name, but since you are carrying the child I think you should be happy with the name too! :)

Funny that you mentioned the movie, because that is the first thing that came to my mind when I read it.

Here is the origin and meaning:
Hebrew, The messenger of the Lord. A prophet in the Bible.
