Who's paying the electric bills????

I prefer to leave mine off. The more the computer is running, the more likely you are to have a MTBF problem (mean-time-between-failure)...what I mean is that you're going to increase the likihood of a failed component if you are stressing it (using it). Many people will argue that start/shutoff is more stressing, but I've only seen a few rare instances where power offs are problematic w/modern hardware (and I've worked on 1,000's of pcs). If a component is going to fail, it will, and it will more likely fail in time. I'd say leave it on if you're always using it (ie: downloading, processing overnight, etc) - otherwise, leave it on when you use it and turn it off when you're not. You can always think about having the computer go to sleep, suspend, or hibernate - that's kind of a middle-approach. My final points for keeping it off occasionally is that the OS will load clean (fresh) and if you're online 24x7 you're more susceptible to having your computer hacked/tampered with compared to having it completely offline. Food for thought.....

I don't know about pros and cons, but I leave mine on. Use it to much, figured it hurts the computer more to turn on and off all the time than it does just to leave it on.

you should always turn a computer off when it will not be used for any length of time. if you leave a computer on all the time it will start to run slower, the programs will not run correctly, windows will start to degrade, and eventually the computer will freeze up on you. it happens all the time to a common computer i use at work. it never gets shut down and at least once a week it freezes up or the programs don't work right. then the only thing we can do is to reboot it.

I heard that if you keep on turning it on and off it'll probably get broken,....stuff liek that,....and if you leave it open,....I don't think it consumes THAT much . Cons? WEll,...it might disturb you seein the little LED blinking but that's not such a problem,....so I would say leaving it turned on means no harm to anybody ;)

I leave mine on. It takes more power to start it and turn it off than it does to just leave it on "stand by" at night.

leaveing it on would save you time but i would waste energy and sometimes it will freze up
leaving it off would not save you time if your in a rush beacuse you need to wait for it to turn on but you have a low chance that your computer will run slow and freze up ......
so leaving your computer off at night is a good idiea

Off, uses too much electricity and makes the house hot.

leave it on, it will automatically go into energy saver mode and that will cost less in the long run, than turning it off and on all the time.
