It's called self harm because you are harming yourself... it's not healthy. You are running the risk of blood infections and other blood complications.
I can understand where you are coming from, but if your skin is your canvas then have you ever considered tattooing?? If it's the pain you like then you'll get more with tattoos than a blade! If it's the blood then quite often you'll bleed during a tattoo aswell.
Just please stop cutting yourself. It's not good for you and I think you know that. There are other ways to express your art and be a walking canvas. Good luck x

It's not Art. It's doing something self-destructive just so you can feel it, to pretend you have some control over what seems like a pointless life. It's suicide, but a little at a time. You need professional help. There must be someone you can talk to, if not a parent or other relative then a teacher, or someone in authority you trust and respect. Just stop deluding yourself that there's any artistic value in what you're doing, art is creative, not destructive.

It may seem like art to you now but in a few years when you are over this depression, you will look at the scars and hate them.
If you are self harming coz you think it looks good then you are even doing that wrong! Self harming is a way of letting out pain, not for arts sake.
Get a tattoo...........and some help.

i used to cut to.. not because i needed to or whatever, not because of anything really other than i wanted attention. granted not the best excuse. i used to write a lot before the cutting, but one day i jus couldnt and i took a blade. cutting is art. tatoos hurt you too! so people really cant say that cutting isnt. you will not find an answer to this in a bible, or by getting a tatoo, or whatever bull people try and feed you. the answer to your problem lies in you. ya corny i know. but honestly, being were you are now, maybe not exactly the same but similar, i get why you do it. you cant find any other way out other than to do something that hurts you and makes you feel alive. yes, cutting is an art. but not the best one. my advice, whoch you dont have to take, is to find some other way of letting out your true self.. grab a paint brush a pen anything. jus find a way that isnt so sad. i did not find my way out for a long time and i have the scars to proove it. trust me on this, and you will be happier. it just takes time. wish you the best. ..::K::..

I suspect that arguing to yourself that this is a form of art is a sort of 'self justification' for doing something that at least part of you acknowledges is wrong.
The compulsion to self-harm usually has a cause - it may for instance relate to a lack of self esteem, or self worth; or it may be a way for a 'self-harmer' to 'realize' that they 'feel things' or can 'see' themselves.
Sometimes self-harm is the expression of 'self punishment' that may have its basis in unresoved issues to do with past abuse for which the harmer 'blames themselves' - although this 'blame' may be very wrong. Those who have not had the opportunity to resolve abuse issues from childhood quite frequently practice self harm for a combination of reasons such as those (no doubt inadequately summarized) above.
The roots of the compulsion - for from what you say you recognize that this is what it is - may be deeply closeted in your subconscious yet surfacing through your need to cut yourself.
It would be much better if you could find a suitable form of help, perhaps some kind of counselling - that would allow you to deal with the root cause of your compulsion - and maybe then help you to transpose your 'creative inclinations' to the use of more orthodox media. You could then still 'express' your need to create art - but in a less self harmful way.
Please consider firnding someone with whom you can explore your compulsion.

In a way it's an art but to get through everything maybe you can talk to someone else that's going through the same things you are. You'll feel better that way. I wouldn't go see a psychiatrist though. Because chances are you'll end up in a metal institution pretty soon.
Best of Luck,
Kayla

Noooooo. I don't think you'll get the right answer here. But keep chatting if you like; here are many people who care. If you can, try and see a doctor; as you need professional help. It is not right to harm yourself like that. There are many other things you could do to express yourelf. You could paint ot write a song or make a sculpture... The crux is being PRODUCTIVE and CONSTRUCTIVE, not destroying and hurting and scarring. Ok? Keep chatting, we care.

I was in a de-tox place and there was a self harmer there he showed us his upper body it was about one of the worst sights i've seen it was just covered in lacerations and scars, the strange thing about it all was the guy seemed so normal. i would make an appointment with your GP and have a talk and ask if you could see someone who knows about these things, before you leave it to late. Good luck

Emo, self mutilation is certainly not an art form, nor is attention seeking. Discuss your life with some genuine friends, go for a pint with a caring person, feed the ducks, go fishing, plant a tree, fall in love, be gentle with yourself. Believe it or not, the world is full of beautiful people, join them!
