Look at the other peoples advice, it is all good stuff. Practice, and don't forget the singing, and always, always, always be in tune. I'd recommend having at least two good singers in the band because one may get sick or leave. Remember that people are used to listening to the songs on the radio, so when your singing in tune and have a good beat people will talk. This isn't an insult, it is a compliment. Don't have the music too loud unless your expected to do so. It should be comfortable to listen to. Select songs that sound good and are easy to play, aiming to have a good repertoire. Avoid songs like City of New Orleans unless you're really good because it has many difficult chords. You could learn several other songs in the time it takes to get good with one like that. Always check copyright has been paid. If it hasn't then you have to decide on the risk of the copyright people visiting.

Well you have to know if you are going to be a cover band or an original band....If you are going to cover songs then you need to learn some songs from artists and hope you are all in rhythm :op or if you are going to be an original band you need to start writing music and lyrics its good to know how to read music but sometimes not always needed and remember whichever direction you go to practice practice practice and then if and when you think your good enough you can start playing gigs local bars clubs parties etc...take what you can get when starting out it builds you a base and just go from there just remember when it stops being fun and more about business its time to quit so just have fun with it

practice, practice, PRACTICE! practice makes perfect. and if u practice hard enough and u turn out really well, u can play at somewhere like the house of blues. learn how to play each instrument, sing like angels, and get together some cool outfits and songs.

Start with the first note pal, not the second or the fifth but with the first note.

put your minds together and come up with what you are there for, really get the "why" out of each other. if the music you are all into really collaborates with y'all's style, then make some music.
