Memoirs of a Geisha is a great book, and they just make a movie out of it.

Book: Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven
You can read the screen play for the movie or the book that is slightly different.
Movie: Smoke Signals
by Sherman Alexi
Good easy read and good movie with lots to talk about.

Book: Hearts of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
Movie Apocalypse Now

How about A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks? I think the movie had Mandy Moore in it. It's supposed to be pretty good.

You can't go wrong with any of the Harry Potter series either. The books are better than the movies!

I also say Harry Potter, those books are amazing. You definitely won't be bored. Lord of the Rings is also pretty good ... a lot of people love them, but personally I find them boring. If you like a lot of descriptive details though (as a lot of people do), then you would like them. Some more:

Jurassic Park
Lord of the Flies
Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
Timeline (this book is amazing!!)

Dune by Frank Herbert is your best bet, I'd say. The book is an absolute classic (so long as you don't mind sci-fi) and not at all boring.

Film is kind of ridiculous but fun - plenty of scope to compare and contrast with the book. Assume this is for some kind of school assignment?

The Island of Dr. Moreau--HG Wells. It's a book and there are 3 movie versions--the first is called The Island of Lost Souls.

Try these:

# The Running Man by Michael Cerard Bauer
It's a story about how we perceive others, the judgement we make about them, how we cope with tragedy and the nature of miracles. (it's not a movie though)

# Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose
It's the story of Easy Company of the US Army Airbourne Paratrooper division and their mission in WWII France during Operation Overlord.

Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk
Cabal - Clive Barker (movie called Nightbreed)
(book and movie)

Does it HAVE to be a movie, too? If no,

American Gods - Neil Gaiman
Lamb - Christopher Moore
