Many coaches are trying to bring new players in the National Team (after the World Cup)
It happens to England with Beckham, to Netherlans with Van Nistelrooy, in Italy with Del Piero & others...

Aragones, McClaren, van Basten, Donadoni have to make choices and they think they are doing their best for the Team.

It is a risk they are taking and they take responsability for their actions. When it goes wrong... they will be fired.

btw: about Joaquin, the situation is little more complicated. The player has still to find a spot in his club Team (Valencia) and he is out of shape.
When players do not play in their club, it is rare that the National coach will call them (similar situation happens to the Italian Cassano in the World Cup).

Raul has been out of sorts for a while already and that should come as no real surprise. The coach probably wanted to be fair and give the in-form players a chance. Dropping a fan favourite is not the easiest thing for a coach to do. But in this case its probably in the best interests of the team.

Raul has been playing for Madrid very poorly recently, so he is being dropped from the national squad simply for that reason. Just because a player is a "big name star", it doesn't mean he should always be selected for the side...exactly the same thing has happened with Beckham being dropped from the England team.

No, not him too, all my favorites are being dropped or leaving. First, Zidane, Beckham and now Raul.
I'll have to agree with soccer_mind on the reasons why.

It's the same like England..Beckham is dropped too..but I don't think that's a wise action..Raul,like what you said,is the best forward on the team..and now he is dropped from his own national football team?? this is a nightmare, tell me that it is not true.. NOOO!!!!!!

i think the other spanish strikers are really on good form. he was strip of the spanish captaincy. that shows the coach has no faith in him.
