Drawbacks of feudalism?

There was no way to move from one station in life to another, your position is determined by birth. Talent and ambition have nothing to do with it. Very few people learn to read (at least in European feudalism). Education is very poor at all social levels, except for the clergy who preserve books in monastaries and convents. Kings and nobles are not much educated. Serfs are virtually slaves, but cannot be sold. There is very little trade of travel from one place to another, because the roads are not safe.
