Alfred Nobel was the very interesting man who established through his last will and testament that much of the monies from his estate be left to the organization which would give prizes on into the future to those who contributed to humanity in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for peace.

He started the prizes out of personal guilt due to the deaths his explosives caused in war.
