I can't help thinking how much more peaceful and safe Iraq seemed to be under Saddam than the current situation. The number of people killed since the allied invasions far outweighs those murdered by Saddam. Is it just me or have we been hoodwinked?

I think that since the initial invasion of Iraq the main thing that's gone horribly wrong is the lack of REAL communication between the allied forces and the people of Iraq. We were initially welcomed by so many who were glad to be free of Hussein's regime but then we dealt with the aftermath of the war and his capture in completely the wrong way. Understandably there was alot of unrest amongst the people of Iraq, including all the underground groups who saw the invasion as their opportunity to stamp their dictatortorial mark on the country (some in Hussein's name and some not) and those who thought the invasion of their country by anyone as completely unlawful. But instead of trying to calm the situation and come together with the people to find a way to negotiate a way for them to take real control of their own country we have persisted, for the most part, on being an unrelenting and uncompromising force within their own cities. I hate to say it but the arrogance of our leaders and governments plays a major part in this; always pressuming we know what's best without relenting any real amount of power for far too long to the country we were supposed to be liberating.

You are an IDIOT, have you been to Iraq, have you spoken to any Iraqis, do you know how many people Saddam killed.? I suggest you check the history of Iraq under the fascist dictatorship of Saddam to see how peaceful and safe life was for the Iraqi people

That is just absurd! Saddam killed at least 300,000 of his own people. Then he caused wars that killed another 200,000 of them. You do remember Uday the son that killed people and sent their bodies back to their families in pieces? As bad as things are, they are better than they were. Another point to remember is that the vast majority of the 300,000 civilians murdered by Saddam were Kurds and/or Shia. So even with all the deaths since the 2003 war, having the Sunnis suffering some of the casualties simply evens things out a bit. I hope that your comment that Iraq was "peaceful" was an attempt at black humor because it was most assuredly not safe or peaceful

Hussein replace into killing his very own human beings yet no longer something like what Stalin replace into doing. Hussein replace into conserving his fiefdom from in domicile power struggles. the guy on the line replace into extremely secure. It replace into the turning out to be generals and politicians that have been in Saddam's gun factors of interest for numerous the time. definite the Iraqis have been a hell of plenty greater desirable off with the dictator on the helm. In some years quite everyone seems to be going to work out in simple terms how nicely off the Libyans have been with the nut bar Qaddafi, and Mubarak? nicely a minimum of he gave decrease back a number of what he replace into stealing and he did save the peace extremely. Syria is going down an identical street the Tunisians started and by skill of gum in the event that they are not going to be led by skill of the nostril on the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood. they have Egypt, they have Libya of their pocket, the Tunisian females are strolling scared for what has taken carry of their us of a now. you will get each and every style of arguments and debates with regard to the so called Arab Spring. yet time will let us know all: the muslim brotherhood is going to be working the entire of the Arab international very quickly. How they run issues is by skill of "Shariah regulation". Ever watch a rustic thrive under Shariah regulation after the freedoms their dictators gave them? seem at Iran, you recognize the land Jimmy Carter fvcked up. (ever be conscious how briskly the human beings have been released after Reagan have been given into power?) The Shah of Iran replace into toppled and seem at what's there now. you could assume Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria, to be wearing the shoes of the muslim brotherhood in simple terms like Iran does in the present day.

First off the quote "The number of people killed since the allied invasions far outweighs those murdered by Saddam" shows you are grossly misinformed. You really shouldn't be commenting on something you obviously have no grasp of. (As is also evident by the idiots supporting you here)

So you define "better job" by shooting at our boys in the no-fly zones...By offering the families of suicide bombers cash incentives....By organizing the massacre of HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS Iraqi citizens over the years http://www.moreorless.au.com/killers/hussein-comment.html...and by telling the U.N. to kiss his azz for a decade not abiding by the ceasefire agreement that he signed onto back in 91? Not to mention the list of atrocities he committed against his own people in the form of government sponsored torture and starving them by abusing the oil for food program....

Yeah, that sure is "peaceful" isn't it....I think you'd be better off not getting information from your liberally-retarded friends. Because once you try to argue against hard facts with delusional fantasy, you'll lose every time....And look pretty stupid too.

Yeah, he did a better job of running Iraq. Heck, he did a better job of running Iraq than the chimpies are doing running the US. Don't get me wrong: Saddam was one bad MF to his own people and they should have taken him out long ago. But it was a monumental blunder for the chimpies to take us in there with no plans for getting out.

You've got two yes votes in this household! The internecine warfare that Saddam held in check is revived, the country's infrastructure has been virtually destroyed, the economy is in the toilet and nobody is safe.
