My God....wow.....what a surprising question this is really ! Actually last evening I witnessed this situation in a famous city hospital as I was there to give "Get Well Soon" wishes to a friend.....and encountered with a very rude, stubborn and "I Know More Than Doctor" attitude bearing receptionist......of course it was not a place or situation to counter statement over there.... So kept cool....but while returning to home, I asked myself this exact question, "Why these receptionists at doctors behave like that way?"...... and now I see this question.....it means this disease is virtually everywhere. Well, now I am reading other answers, and hoping for the best one.

why do you think receptionists at doctors office are scary, they are only doing there job. i am a receptionists at a doctor office and i never think i make anyone scared of me. what is your reason. the receptionists job is the most important job because she is meeting the public before the doctor of nurses see them. sometimes people can be very funny if you ask them question they dont like but remember we are only doing our job so the doctor gets the right info the insurance clerk gets the right info.

I even have by no potential been asked this question. Our receptionists are great. when I even have asked for a straight away appointment and been presented an appointment with a nurse, I even have felt constructive that she might look for advice from a doctor if she theory my difficulty warranted it. additionally I even have continually theory that appointment situations have been averaged out so as that slots of (say) 7 minutes have been allotted according to affected person. some might take longer yet some shorter. It would desire to be lots extra complicated for the surgical treatment to paintings out 'time according to symptom'.

I find them very rude a lot of the time. But that only applies to those in the armed forces. The receptionists in civilian surgeries are a lot nicer.

I have always found them to be very nice and helpful. Scary I think you should change doc and dentist. You know maybe there under payed and over worked. But that's still no reason to be rude and scary.

Not all, but some of them have a real attitude. They seem to think because they're working for a doctor that they have the same expertise as the doctor. I had a cousin who thought she was soooo cool b/c she worked for a brain surgeon..like that made her sound rich and smart or something.

I don't know about scary but they are certainly rude and aggressive.

My mum phoned them up the other day to make an appointment and aquire about a repeat precription and the reply that came from the receptionist who took the call when they took her name was, curtly, "oh it's you".

They can have such nasty personalities. My last appt., the receptionist kept asking me for info. and then acted like it was my fault that she didn't already have it. I told her that this was a rude way to treat people. My sis, a doc, was brought to tears once by a recep. who denied that she had an appointment! Why spend all of those years in med school just to hire a hag to harass your patients? It's like throwing money out the door!

I don't think the receptionists are one bit scary, but I think it's possible the patients are scared when they go, especially if it's for dental surgery or something.

They seem to want to know what's wrong with you in public so everybody has a good laugh.
Then they tell you to go away as you're not really ill enough to waste the doctor's time.
