Unless you plan on spending enough money to buy a new car in the process, probably not. Your average low-end server may actually run somewhat slower than top of the line desktop equipment.

Yes a server is a PC too, however that doesnot mean that you would have a "faster PC experience".

Server is a server, it is configured for a specific purpose which is not being used as a PC. Servers have very weak graphics processing performance which means you cannot play any 3D game happily. Servers use different HDDs (namelt SCSI kind HDDs) which has great RPM rates (10400 RPM or more) (rpm=round per min) but very small sizes. e.g 36Gb, 54Gb etc. Small sized won't do good for personal use. And they are expensive.

A truly configured PC can be a monster :) you don't need a server.

Read this you will love that monster :))

Of course you can. All a server is, is a typically more powerful computer anyway. If you install a server OS then there will be some differences in the way it runs. For example, not many (if any) consumer antivirus software will run on Windows Server. Instead you have to buy the enterprise edition of their software.

You may be able to just install Windows XP though and run that just fine as normal. Although some of the hardware on a server box may not have appropriate drivers in Windows XP. So to answer your question, yes, but things aren't guaranteed to go perfectly.

Any system can be a server... if you're thinking about buying a pre-built server - these tend to be large boxes to sit in a rack - you are better off with just getting the parts you need for a faster PC.
