Don't know the title. A spacecraft lands on Mars and there is a beast thing that gets inside the lower level of the ship. These spacemen climb thru the air ducts to see if they can see one of their astronaut's that is missing, and they see the beast eating the guy in the airduct. Later they see the beast walking outside the ship on Mars and they run down the spiral staircase to try and bring the body of the dead astronaut back upstairs. Just then the beast decides to come back to the ship and surprises the astronaut and he runs back up the spiral stairs and the monster is just behind him racing up the steps and grabs his ankle. The guy jumps thru a submarine style hatch door with the monsters hand clinging to his ankle and they slam the hatch door on the beasts arm. he lets go and they lock the hatch door. After this scene, i had to go upstairs in my house to bed and we had spiral stairs on all 3 levels of our house. I couldnt run up those stairs fast enough. I was scared every time I used the stairs for at least 3-4 years.

King Kong scared the bejeezus outta me and so did The Hounds of Baskerville as a small child.
When I was a teenager I saw Gargoyles...and that...along with the Exorcist...scared the life outta me (nearly)
When I was in my 20s that is when the first "Halloween" came out and THAT was the first of it's kind and that was really scary.
More recently the scariest thing I think I've seen was the first "Rings" movie. The movie "Ghostship" was surprisingly much scarier than I thought too.

Salems Lot. That movie scared the bejeepers out of me. I still think about the ghoule floating outside the kids window and tapping it and making a noise. Wow, that kept me up many nights.

My brother and I went to the theatre to see "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" - we were like 11 and 9. That movie scared the crap out of us! It was the 70's version staring Donald Sutherland and Mr. Spock - Leonard Nemoy.

No other movie in any era has had more horrific effects on people than "Jaws" (only the first). No other movie terrifies me that much. I'm still affected by it even when I'm swimming in a pool. That movie puts shark images in everyone's head whenever they swim even if it's only in their sub-conscious.
