The average cost should be around 400.00
Their are two belts and the water pump should be replaced. The water pump is driven by the timing belt.

If you wouldn't delete your questions before people are done answering, you might get a complete answer.... First, find out why the car was salvaged. If it was just little stupid stuff, no big deal. If it was towed out of someone's yard, it can get a salvage title, not that anything is wrong with it. Without knowing the cause of the title, there's no way to judge whether it's in bad shape or not. There's many different ways to get it titled as salvaged. So, you need to just call and ask, instead of theorizing. Secondly, it's not at a discounted price. A 1996 Civic, is worth between 1400 and 1900. At almost 3000, it's quite a bit above the going price for these cars. So, yes, they are likely making a profit. Or at least, breaking even on whatever repairs needed to be done. In poor condition, it's worth 300-500$. So, they may have bought it at $500, spent $1000 fixing it up, and are now asking for $3000. As an example.

about $700 because your gonna wanna get the water pump replaced the same time as well because that is right there and its good to always replace those when doing timing belt on Hondas.
