Since it's all multiplication, you can solve this in any order you want. Here's the steps for three different ways to solve it:
1. -2 * y = -2y
2. -2y * 8 = 16y
OR
1. -8 * y = -8y
2. -8y * 2 = 16y
OR
1. -2 * -8 = 16
2. -16 * y = 16y

okay...so..first...do the numbers cause the make the problems easy
Problem: y(-2)(-8)
Step 1: y(16).....................16 because -8 X -2 = 16
Step 2: 16y ...........(because it doesn't really matter in what order you put it...but it looks better if you put the number first and then the variable (letter)
and that's that answer : 16y
DId that help??

you use the distributive property first
do it's y* -2= -2y
then u take the negative 8 out of the parenthesis...
so it's -2y-8...you can't do anything with it then...cuz there aren't any like terms...and wer're not given what the equation equals to.
