The "Vietnamese Guy" is Cong Thanh Do. He is what the Viets call a Viet Kieu (Vietnamese living outside of Vietnam). He was arrested and jailed because he broke laws in Vietnam. The Vietnamese government has every right to enforce and incarcerate people who violate their laws, regardless of the person's nationality.

His constitutional rights as an American ended the moment his flight left U.S. air space. He should respect the laws of the country he is visiting, regardless of how different or immoral such laws might be to an American. The U.S. defended Cong Thanh Do, because it is the duty of the U.S.Embassy and U.S. Consulate to protect Americans on foreign soil. Cong Thanh Do is lucky that the relationship between Vietnam and the U.S. is on very good terms or he could have been sitting in a communist prison for years.

I am the son of a Viet Kieu (my Mother married my American Dad and came over in 1965), and I have heard horrific and heroic stories of how many in my family and other Viet Kieu escaped communism. I very much respect their opinions of communism, but cannot overlook certain truths and facts. In my opinion, Cong Thanh Do was wrong for doing what he did.

Do is obviously very passionate about his beliefs and negative opinions of the communist Vietnam government. Some Viet Kieu like Do don't want to realize that their war ended over 30 years ago, yet are still passionate against a government that has caused their lives much grief. However, he and other Viet Kieu are now outsiders, and I believe they have no right to meddle in the affairs of a foreign country.

Do is an American now. I suggest that he stay out of Vietnam if he doesn't like the communist government there.

I didn't hear about it but he could have been put on the terrorist list by the US (he could have just been politically active or have a record of liberal views). If he was a U.S. citizen, the U.S. would have demanded him back in U.S. custody and created an international incedent. If he wasn't, he could have been arrested and kept there to be tortured. There can be many reasons why but most of them involve the government as an evil entity.

Guess what honey...congress just passed a law yesterday that makes what you describe possible right here in America. It's called the "Terror Trials Bill" I believe. Basically it says anyone labeled a terrorist can be tortured and/or imprisoned without a civil trial or the right to face their accusers. Add to that the law they passed today which makes Warrant-less Wiretaps legal and you have a very dangerous combination that puts ALL OF OUR CIVIL RIGHTS IN DANGER!!!

Oh jeeez. How does it violate civil rights? if you're suspected of inebriated driving, you receives stopped and pulled over. what's occurring to those illegals isn't any diverse. The police can end anybody at any time. So those type of human beings that get stopped at sobriety tests are going to scream, "you're violating my civil rights!" Get a existence. The police are doing their pastime. What do you want to them to do, cling out at doughnut shops? We already understand they do sufficient of that. instruct them the papers and be on your way. Corruption is a diverse element and should be addressed one at a time. yet we received't blend corruption with those that are ending up regulation wisely. i like how those human beings attempting to spin their breaking the regulation as our racism -- ridiculous. If I snuck into Mexico through Arizona through hopping the border, i'd be shot instantaneous or detained. they are so finished of it.
