If you do put in some CDs or DVDs, make sure you also put it something to play them on! You probably don't remember floppy disks went they were really floppy, but what if you were to dig up a time capsule with some 5" or 8" floppy disks, and maybe some reel-to-reel magnetic tape which would take a computer the size of your bed to play them back? No chance reading them! Without a player, the people of the future might think a CD was some kind of shiny coaster or mini Frisbee....

things that were significant during the time such as:
- a news paper with the big headlines that is newsworthy that you think will make it down history.
- a piece of stamp, depending on when the time capsule is opened, it may be worth a lot especially if we have stopped using them by then
- a catalog or something to show what things are worth (car, house, computers, etc.)
- a picture of a gas station with the prices on it
- an ipod, to give the future an idea of what we had when we first got away from the regular media (tape, CD)
- a letter to the person who opens it with info on what it was like to live your time
I can go on and on but this should give you a place to start.

You cannot bury a time capsule without a copy of Lynne Truss's book 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves'!
This absolutely fantastic little book explains English grammar and punctuation in a way that's very funny and easy to understand. A great way to learn where to put the apostrophes without being bored to tears!
In a hundred or so years time, when the capsule might be discovered, the book will be sadly needed. By then, grammar, spelling and punctuation will no longer be a vital part of education....we are already on that slippery slope!!!

Maybe a dictionary, as for the future of the English language I believe it to be dead and will unfortunately be replaced by the lazy un-educated people of our society who speak in nothing but text and variations of American gangsta rap. Either that or a picture book containing trees and plant life and a picture book of all known animals as we the human race are exceptional at wiping out all forms of life even our own.

logarithm tables; chalk and board rubber; brodie's notes on any shakespeare play; a cane maybe; proper ruled handwriting paper; a chart with gold stars on; I think it was the Longman AudioVisual French books (with Marie-Claude etc.) and the Latin course (with Caecilius the father, Metella the mother, Grumio the farmer etc.) - dodgy as anything, but I'm 38 years old, not seen them since I was 12, and I still remember it!!

Shame it's got to be learning related and not student related, cause else I would say a good bottle of wine - think how matured it'd be by the time it came out.
