Private firms that edit film often charge upwards of $75/hour and the time spent depends on many factors.
Film editors on actual Hollywood movie projects are paid at union established rates. Are you a member of the union? If so, then calling your union rep. would be the way to go. Outside work is often fraught with peril, as you can gain a bad reputation in the biz for doing such projects.

depends what kind of editor.
And what level.

Magazine, Newspaper, lit., ref. lit - what kind?

There are lower editors that actually edit and then there are senior editors that oversee them and make cuts.. which kind are you talking about.

In each faction there are even more too because a local paper editor in chief may make less than a lower level editor at the New York Post.
