It is because majority of the people are probably doing it, but not all. As human beings, it is an automatic impulse for us to stick the gum underneath the table if we are seated because it is the closest we can reach to dispose it, instead of standing up and walking to the nearest trash can.

Except in Singapore, where it's against the law to chew gum unless you have a medical exemption. Also remember when you are dining out or on a party, it is on the etiquette that if you are chewing gum, dispose of it BEFORE you sit down to the meal. Often, there is no place to put it, and sticking it under the table is definitely NOT good manners.

No, that's disgusting. it continuously seems to be like me, however, that discovers somebody's in the previous-chewed gum on a chair or table in college. i do no longer purchase bubble gum or chewing gum...I quite have braces, so regrettably i will't bite gum anymore. :(

I do not know, but it got me into a bunch of trouble when I was in school once. I didn't even do it . I sat where someone else
had done it. I'll never forget the experience.

When I was a little kid I used to pick at the gum under the tables at restaurants and eat it!!!! YUCK!!!!
