Well obviously she had a boy or you wouldnt have a fiance. I guess it could be feasible that she miscarried all boys..but for her to know that she must of been fairly far along and there would more than likely be something genetic going on..Sperm are x or y and it really is just a roll of the dice as far as which sex the baby is...For whatever reason some families tend to have all girls or all boys..but a lot families are mixed...statistically speaking our world is pretty much a varied mixed of 50/50 boy/girl...There are slightly more boys conceived for every girl but that is another thing entirely..(has to do with boy babies being more fragile than girls)...Just wish for a healthy baby and you're are guarenteed either one or the other..LOL...We have 5 girls here and are planning on having another one...we are hoping for a boy..but...we'll be more than happy with a healthy baby girl...or girls...I have 2 sets of identical twins..so we are expecting that we'll have twins again..LOL

I did hear something on the National Geographic channel (show was about how the baby grows inside) and they did say that if you have a boy you have a higher chance of having a miscarriage for your next pregnancy? I dont remember the reason though. But I somehow doubt that your fiance will only be capable of carrying a girl? She is not the same person as her mother. My mother miscarried a male as well, but I am 39.6 weeks pregnant and am having a boy? So dont listen to her rubbish.

I'd say it's probably just "old wives tales" type of talk. And as far as your fiancee only being able to have girls - the father actually determines the gender of the baby as far as whether the sperm that fertilizes the egg carrys an 'x' or a 'y' chromosome. Females have the 'x,x' chromosomes (meaning the father passed on his x), while males have an 'x,y' chromosome (the father passes on the male traits). So there is no way for your future-mother-in-law to know!

Most miscarriages happen prior to the 12th week of pregnancy. If a miscarriage occurs prior to the 16th week of pregnancy, there is nothing a doctor can do to stop it. Pregnancies where there are problems after the 16th week of pregnancy, can in many occurences be saved.

A baby's sex cannot be determined until the 16th week of pregnancy.

Although it is probably possible to miscarry 11 times and every time be boys...it is impossible for her to have known that all of those miscarriages were indeed, boys.

My grandmother professed to have 13 pregnancies and only gave birth to 3 girls. she said it was due to a hormone imbalance during her pregnancy. Regardless of my grandmothers experience, my mother had two boys. Both pregnancies were very difficult where as her pregnancy with me was not difficult. I have had one girl (medium difficulty in the first trimester, no issues later) 1 miscarriage first trimester and one that is going well so far. We don't know the sex but I am basing this all on my family history.

Unless your MIL had second trimester miscarriages, she would not know the sex of her fetus'. Possibly there was something wrong with your wife's mother to make her have so many miscarriages. It does not necessarily preclude that your wife will miscarry any male fetus.

Yes I have heard of lots of cases where a woman can only carry one sex (they think it might be a possibility with me as I've had 5 miscarriages for no apparant reason). However once the woman has had one sucessful pregnancy she should be able to carry either sex full term! And I dont believe it can run in families so I wouldnt worry.

My aunt works at the hospital with preemies. She said that a lot of the babies that die are boys because for some reason boys are weak. They said that it goes along with sperm how the male sperm don't survive as long either. But I doubt that she would be able to tell that all 11 miscarriages were boys.

It is not impossible but if someone has had 11 miscarriages it does not sound right .

You should not worry about what happened to your fiance's mother because that is her not you. Just take it easy and focus on yourself and you will be able to get pregnant and give your daughter a brother or a sister. (Good Luck)!!!!

There is a genetic disorder that boys will be miscarried, but it is passed through the father, the y chromosomes are not properly formed. I would be impossible for it to be passed from mother to daughter as women do not have any y chromosomes.

this is rubbish - the only way that doctors would determing the genders of the babies is via ultrasound & I can't imagine anyone getting pregnant that many times in a row, carrying them long enough that they were large enough to ultrasound, and then losing them all.

Babies' genders aren't determined by what you "can carry" - they are determined by what the zygote "decides" to become - what type of sperm are present (boy-making sperm or girl-making sperm) - the chromosomes that are formed.
