For Emma who says you can conceive at anytime, but it's more likely when you ovulate...did you go to school? You can only conceive when you ovulate, as that is when the egg is released and ready to be fertilised.

Your best bet would be to start monitoring your own cycle for a few months, so you know where you are. I'm doing the same now, but for the opposite reason...I don't want to conceive, and I don't want to go on the pill, but that's another story. Basically I have a 28 day cycle and I usually ovulate on day 12 (12 days after the first day of my period). I know I'm ovulating, because I get what's commonly known as Egg White Cervical Mucus (EWCM) which is literally like a stringy discharge. If you wanted to go even further, you could sit on the edge of the toilet seat and poke up inside yourself very far, and you will be able to feel your cervix, and whether it is open...if it is, you're ovulating (I did this with the conception of my second and last child, but it's not overly recommended, as you might have dirty fingers and infect yourself...but it's a sure way of knowing).

You ovulate for around 2-3 days, but sperm can last for upto 5, so potentially you have about 6-7 days where you could get pregnant...so I'd advise that from when your period stops, you go at it everyday until it starts again, and then you can guarantee you've covered your fertile time.

Your best time to conceive will be about 2 weeks before you start your period. If you have been tracking your cycles count back to about 2 weeks before each cycle begins and this should be the time that you ovulate. Most women ovulate anytime between days 12 and 17 of their cycles. With periods ranging from 26-32 days. Hope this helps you.

Margar the best time to conceive is on the day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 3 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

I don't know what the weather is like where you are but, in my experience, it's best to conceive as close to summer as possible. You will be experiencing many changes in your body and your hormones that will cause you to have almost constant hot flashes so if you could be pregnant during the winter and avoid pregnancy during summer months your pregnancy will be much more bearable. Good luck!

The previous poster is giving you "cookie cutter" advice - this is not true for everyone and you should use some method of determining when you ovulate. I actually have a very normal 28 day cycle, but I don't ovulate around day 14, as the previous poster said, but rather around day 10. Use a basal body thermometer (read taking charge of your fertility), ovulation predictor kits or observing your cervical mucous (www.fertilityfriend.com) for the best chances of determining when you are ovulating.

It is easiest to concieve when you ovualte, but it can be done any time of the month. For those of us who have irregular cycles though, it is not that easy. I went and bought the ovulation predictor kits. You pee on a stick and it tells you if you are ovulating. If you are, go home and have sex! Just make sure you are having fun though, if you are stressing about it, it will be difficult. Good luck!
