If we torture, if we kill civilians, if we "disappear" people to be tortured in other countries, if we kill to prove that killing is wrong, what moral superiority do we have? Is killing for Bush's god better than killing for Allah? If we fight terror with terror, evil with evil, what exactly are we fighting for?

Are you serious, GoWhitey33? We "simply" torture people? It's okay because they might be terrorists? Are you out of your freaking mind or just so scared that anything they throw at you in the name of your security is okay?

Veda, dear, I am a veteran. I've been out there defending my country. So you can take your Michael Savage book titles and far-right sloganeering and go hide in your kitchen with the rest of the subjugated women in your particular wanna-be Stepford sewing circle.

Kevin F and matthew_yelle:
Terrorists don't wear a nametag that says "I'm a terrorist." There are a lot of "suspected" terrorists subjected to these abuses against humanity.
And torture is evil, sadistic and wrong first and ineffective second. We should remember that the ends do not justify the means.

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy...Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

War is about survival, not being morally right or wrong. The difference between winning & losing is not just about strategy, tactics, operations etc, it's also about the leaders & troops' willigness to kill.
Unfortunately, many civilians have been wrongly killed simply beacuse they were in the wrong place at the wrong time or for a host of other "reasons".(there can never be a good reson for killing innocent civilians)
Terrorists are too warped to see the "light" & it seems to only way to stop them is to kill them though it may not stop terrorism entirely.

America isn't in the war because of religion, we are in the war because we were incorrect in assuming that Iraq was a threat to us. As far as Afghanistan, we went into there to clean out Al Qaeda, not to bomb them because they are Muslim. I am not for the wars at all, I am against them. But you have to understand why we are over there, which I do, still doesn't mean I am for it.
The moral superiority happened because of the previous World Wars we were fighting against people like Stalin and Hitler, men that are killing millions of people for nothing. Saddam did the same, but we should have been over there when he was doing it to stop the massacre, not wait until he had killed almost all of them. We have always tried to save those that can't defend themselves, it's just that we aren't able to claim we did that in the current conflict. We try to stick to the Geneva Convention, but it is rather hard when the enemy doesn't. Again, we shouldn't be over there anyway, but I can understand why we are having the problems we are having.

That's true. Except according to the majority rule in this country, "our" god is right and Allah is wrong. Christianity is the way to salvation and Islam is full of lies and is the religion of heathens. It all goes back to beliefs. When people believe something, they will stop at nothing to make sure that everyone either believes the same or dies (at least if they are conservative enough). That's why we can kill people in the same way as the terrorist and our citizens root for us.

ok this might be lenghtly cause the question is far more than just that of a question it is also a veiw and a way of life .
the simplicity of this is were not bettering ourself's if we lower our standards of living as freemen.
Depending on the outcome of the information from such torture as you refer to .If the information yeilds a life saved then by all means torture away if that life is that of an inocent ,however no good new information has ever been established from torture ,just the confermation of that which we already knew just didn't believe or wanted to hide behind to saticfy some basic need for revenge.
If we kill civilians then we will feel the lose of civilians of our own ten fold for that is the way of revenge an eye for an eye is far better if in that eye weighs the equal to ten of those that might of come before the shorting of that inocent which there would be a formula if heritage was avalible .
if we would hide the fact that those who yeilded no new information before their untimly death at our hands to extact some form of justification for what we were trying to achieve then your right we are no better than those we are trying to protect ourselfs from in which case the world has just cause in bringing our way of life to an end by all means nessary for we would be truely evil (let me explain that before you get so upset for I know no concious human being truely believes he is evil ((exept those who seek infamy)))for we are at the mercy of our leaders in the worlds eye beyond their control.
if we kill to prove that killing is wrong then morally we are subject to the same justice that we are dealing out .
the moral superiority that we once held is lost and forgotten to those in charge of our land at the present day and need to look deep into ourselfs and ask the horrifying questions we avoid .(who am I to question the life of another who also should be free to decide for themselfs how they choose to live).
killing for any god is not what that entity would want period for god (and all gods by the definitionn would see pease and prosperity way before he saw to the death and destuction of his very own reflection).
fighting terror with terror is unfortunately the only way to combat terror (until we truely understand that statement we are doomed to it )remmember what do terrorist fear that is what we combat them with not what they entice.
the only way to fight evil is with purity and by that it means purity of heart mind and spirit if they are to be believed as the holy trinity then so be it but I choose to believe that to be the true human nature.
Unfortunatly we are fighting for political retubution from a son for a father for what is occuring today does not represent the founding fathers idea for a free way of life .
if you were to ask me how would I fix this I would simply say
"I am not one to judge anothers motives or actions for thier cross is theirs to bear and if christ or god or what ever you might believe in be your judge and yours alone for I will not presume that role in any way shape or form for I would be damed for sure ."
may god bless you and your family if it is right that he should do so for I will love you as my brother until then".

"Bush's God "? What are you trying to say ? All your generalizations and you haven't stated one point .
Where is the denouncing of what Osama bin laden did to us on 9/11 ?
Where is the righteous indignation when Zargawi was beheading people ?
Why do you reserve contempt for those trying to eliminate terrorism -INSTEAD OF FOR THOSE WHO SPREAD IT ?
Your rooting for the enemy in time of war will only hurt the war on terror . Soon , the entire country will know that liberalism is a mental disorder .
WHEN IS THE LAST TIME A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT KNEW WHAT WE WERE FIGHTING FOR -OR CARED ?
The only evil going around besides terrorism is Chavez and the liberal democrats giving aid & comfort to the enemy while they are shooting at our troops & coalition forces & Iraqi forces .

You have a good point here. This ignorant president and his cronies are trying to prove to the terrorists, and the world that, they cannot beat the pentagon in the terrorists activities.

I totally agree with this. This is one of the many reasons people hate America because of how hypocritical our system actually is. That is why we will not win this so-called war.

Whats great about this is that we're not killing anyone (yet).... we simply torture, which is a hell of a lot better than decapitating them like the terrorists do to their hostages. Maybe you should do a little bit more research before you begin to question the war.
