I had a friend die back in 1999 and I want to find the obituary but I don't know what state to look in. Is there any place online where I can search obituaries and try to find my friend?

If your friend died in your hometown go to your local library to the geneology department. They have old newspapers on microfilm all you need is a date and a name. If you know the social security number you can go the the local ss office and ask them. You may be able to access the internet social security records, or death records. Or if you know the city your friend was born in you could access their library records or use the web.

if the local paper where the death occured has a website, then you could access that.. if not, then go to the papers office and search the archives.. they are normally on microfiche..
