Some white people on here not all still bring up the topic of slavery and i don't understand why??as a young black girl i have nothing to say about slavery because thankfully i wasn't born then but it seems white people jump to that conclusion that every black person uses slavery as an excuse to not like white people or that they keep them down and i doubt it has nothing to do with that because slavery has been long gone i don't go around blaming white people for enslaving blacks because the generations of today has nothing to do with what happened in the 1800s. call me a racists if you will but it's just a question. i'm not referring to all whites but i do come arcoss some white people who bring it up like it's worse than what's really going on in the world???

I would definitely have to agree with you, white people are always asking why black people keep bringing up slavery and they don't realize that they are actually the ones who keep bringing it up.

I would say there are a few reasons. The first is what they see on television. For example the nation of Islam uses such explainations. I think the second reason is that others might bring up things like segregation and some whites might just associate it with slavery. I have not really come across this situation to be honest with you. But I will say this. Slavery by law was abloshed during the 1860's however slavery did exist afterwards. Some might say that because of sharecropping and jim crow laws which mandated that you had to work off your crimes and such that slavery did not actually end until the late 1940's. I even have a friend who claims that his grandmother was a slave in the South ( I can't prove this). but if that is true it does shed some light on why people would say that. After all our grandparents were born in the 1910's and 20's. My hope is that through education we can repair the damage from the past and move forward instead of just reflecting on it.

i think the answer to your question is just this:

among every color, every race, every creed, there are stupid ppl.
there are those who will blame their situation or their failures on things they were not involved in. any black person today who blames their situation on slavery is an idiot. time to move on and live in the world as it is now. by the same token, any white person that says that a black person is using the topic of slavery to get what they want, is also an idiot. if a person can bring up slavery to defeat your stance in an arguement then you probably didnt have much of a point to start with.

people need to just learn to see each other as individuals and not as races. there are ppl of all types that are smart, stupid, active, lazy, nice, mean.... etc. look at the person, not the skin.

i have a lot of friends of all colors, and i thank god every day for blessing me with so many different types of beautiful women to admire. lol. thank god for variety.

Um? Didn't you just do that? Which is my point exactly.......As long as you or anyone else continue to bring it up, it just keeps the topic going................No one allive today, went through slavery in the 1800's (date you gave) They are all dead.
And you are correct when you say generations today had nothing to do with slavery then..............I would never call you a racist for asking this question, but keep in mind every culture is racist or was racist to a degree.............Blacks are racis towards whites, and visa/versa........That doesn't mean every white person or every black person is racist...THAT IS THE POINT! iF someone brings up the topic again, white or black, get up and walk away.....They'll get the point.....
The "race" card is nulled and void in my opinion...I'm sick of hearing about it...It's like the boy who cried Wolf! Enough already.............No body cares anymore because that was then, and this is Now..........We all need to move forward..........Many of us are....I have several diferent cultural friends now and I love it!
In fact we all agreed to not bring up race.....We are moving on.
I would hope that since you are a young black lady, that you will help instill in your age group to move on.......Life can be great when one doesn't dwell on the past.........I think we have all come far in the last 20 years alone......Those who think we haven't aren't trying hard enough.........They are the ones keeping the past alive........Good luck to you Hon! I would like to add this though........Everything that happened back then I am truly sorry for..I am sorry if any of my people were a part of it....I never heard of that..No lie.....And it would be so embarassing......It never should have happened, but histoty tells us otherwise......I apologize for all that were involved.......Africa had no business selling Africans knowing they were to be used that way.....I am so glad I didn't live back then....Again I'm sorry for all of us!

I don't realy know because it's not something I bring up, but I would imagine it's becasue they feel insecure with themselves and question wether or not their racist. After seeing how some whites act toward blacks, I know that I constantly question myself. Someone who brings up the slavery issue may be trying to point the finger at generations back to devert attention from themslevs or may be trying to keep a blind eye to today's problems by saying that blacks are just pernoid and unforgiving. Either way, I hope you don't look badly on the majority of us for the actions of a few ignorent people.

Honey I do not see why anything you said could be construed as you being a racist. I have not come across these comments in here yet to know what type of things that are being said. But your right..there are important matters that are happening in today's world that people should focus on instead of stirring up a pot that is better left alone. You seem like a smart girl and have a great head on your shoulders....ignore the ignorant.

Whites are not going to stop with the slavery rant. You know why? Because we have programs to help us out, and they know that We know racism still exists. If Oprah can't get into a boutique just because of the color of her skin, then there is no hope for us to be completely rid of this cultural disease.Present day Whites aren't the blame for past Slavery, but to bring it up puts them in the same boat as their forefathers. Holla.

Some people are just ignorant, and ignorance is bliss. Some people are ignorant and live their lives that way, not knowing any better, they will die ignorant. The unfortunate part of this is that they have children and give their children the same ignorant ideas and beliefs. If they knew better they would do better. Or as my beloved mother used to say, it they had a brain they would be dangerous.

Allow me to answer your question, simply because I hear everyday how blacks can't get ahead today because of slavery from ingorant black young men that refuse to look for jobs or study. They use it constantly as a scapegoat for their lack of ambition. I completely agree with you that whites of today are not to blame. However many blacks still want to use it as a crutch. I am glad to see that you have educated yourself and risen above that. Why is there a movement albiet a small one to seek reperations for something that has not affected a group of people for sevral generations. Or is it only ok to bring up slavery if you are black?
