False pride, arrogance.

I am proud of my son and his accomplishments. However, if someone made a derogatory remark about him, I might retort with words to defend him, but would not bluster or threaten violence. The latter is false pride.

Feel good (proud) of your accomplishment(s), but don't brag of them. The latter is false pride.

Blustering and throwing your weight around to provoke fights. That is false pride.

Putting other people down to make yourself feel big. False pride.

Maintaining a position that has been proven wrong. Refusing to admit when you have been wrong. Refusing to apologize. All false pride.
