I agree with talking to your teacher. Letting your teacher know that you are really trying to do well can make a big difference. Try doing more practice problems and if you are still having trouble seek tutoring. Many schools offer it for free. You might also want to try getting a book like "Algebra for Dummies." I'm not calling you a dummy, the "for dummies" books can be really helpful and their easy to understand and follow.

Relate every possible real life problem with algebra problems. Do try to calculate real-time problems like percentages, fractions etc without using calculator. You can find some mathematical puzzle books in the shops, buy one and solve. If possible, buy a white-board and hang it in your room. Write the common formulas on it so that you can have a glance at them all the time. Search internet and find out the problems related to distance / percentage / velocity / fractions / equation solving etc and solve them. If you're smart enough, try building complicated 2 or 3 variable equations yourself and then solve them so that your variable handling ability can improve. Check your answer by using CASIO fx - 991MS calculator if you have one. It can solve equations upto 3 variables. One last thing, buy SAT / GRE guide books (Kaplan or Barron's anything will do) and solve the maths portions in our free time. Hope you can improve doing all these.
Try to understand that algebra is not only to be able to do what is there in your textbook, rather it is a knowledge that you shoul be able to apply in every stage of your life.

Get a tutor, if you are in high school you really need to learn algebra and at least score a B, a C is average and shows you still don't understand. Have your tutor give you lots of practice problems and buckle down and work. Don't wait until college to do this and you need understanding of algebra for college, no matter what you major in. Please try harder!

Try to study with your friends as long as you don't chat. Ask your teacher for help after class. Buy an Algebra for Dummies book (not meant to be taken offensivly) You may do whatever you wish as long as you are comfortable with it.

my dad is an engineer, so math is like nothing to him.
find someone like a parent or other student to tutor you. i wouldn't suggest a parent, cuz they lived in the stone age and they did all the problems differently then. lol
