Yes they do, but only when they're adults!

It's true that females rarely fly because of their body weight, but this varies from species to species, plus, after laying her ootheca (egg sack) she'll be fairly slim for a little while until she stuffs enough bugs down her throat to make the next lot of eggs - she'll feel a bit weak at first though, so she's still unlikely to do a lot of flying ..!

It's the quickest way to tell whether a mantis is an adult or not - if it has wings, yes it's an adult - if it doesn't have wings, it's still got at least ONE moult to go through..!

BTW, not that it matters, but they're not ALL green..!

Praying mantises have two pairs of wings. They can fly but usually take flight only to move from one perch to another or to escape from predators. They are not long distance fliers. Adult female mantises are often incapable of flight because their bodies are heavy with the weight of undeveloped eggs.

Yes they do , they get to a certain age and grow wings females rarely fly weight wise , after a certain age males loose there wings .

yes. they dont fly very well though. they have to jump off their perch first and have a clear space to build up speed. their flight is mostly a decent.

Yea. I love watching them eat, though. That's the only bug, well, there's walking sticks, too, that I would let crawl on me.

yes they can, scared the crap out of my son when he caught one and it flew up at him!
