The only time you want more than one Betta in the tank is when you want to breed a male and female. Otherwise, Bettas need to be kept seperated. Even after breeding, it can get ugly in the tank as the male becomes very aggressive toward the female. Females can get along with other females, but not always. Males will ALWAYS fight other males, no matter what.
If you want your Betta to have company, try an African dwarf frog. They get along quite well. For more info on Bettas and their care....visit here: http://www.bettatalk.com/
There are lots of sites on the web but I've found this one to be one of the best - very informative with sound advice.

Some people have betta's in community tanks, as long as there are no fin-nippy fish, or other fish with large fins such as a fancy guppy. It's all a matter of the individual fishies and your opinion. No - he won't be lonely. They are a solitary animal in nature and is why they are so aggressive. They are only around others while mating - and the male is actually the one who cares for the eggs. .
You know your fish is happy and healthy if he makes a "bubble nest". He will make a mucus-covered pile of bubbles at the surface of his home. The mucus gives the bubbles strength so they don't just pop right away. It just looks like a regular bit of foam on the surface of the water.

Definitely no. I've had a lot of experience with Betta fish and I could never by two because they would fight. The only way they will not fight is if you mix the with oter fish when they are young. But that still very risky.

Bettas will accept a wide range of water parameters so they can go with most other fish. They can also be perfectly happy on their own.

no he will not get lonely. They are a kind of fish that do better by themselves. and fish do not have that much of a complex mind to even get lonely. Plus, if you add one more, they might not like eachother and fight
