It's totally normal for a girl your age to have irregular periods. They will probably become more regular as you get older.

It's also pretty normal for them to be heavy and painful. However, if they are so painful that you can't function normally - like you're staying home from school because you can't get out of bed - then you might have a condition like endometriosis. In that case, a doctor will prescribe birth control pills to regulate your periods and help control the pain.

If you just have bad cramps, you can try tylenol, advil, mydol or pamprin. You'll want to cut down on salt, because that causes water retention (bloating).

Yes, it's a very common problem in young women. I know from personal experience! When I was younger I had the same problem. I never told my doctor though until I had one period that lasted 2 weeks and was so heavy, that I lost too much blood and ended up in the hospital! So don't let it come to that, tell your doctor, and maybe you can take hormones (birth control) to regulate your periods until you're older. By the time most women are about 24 this problem will correct itself. Good luck!

Naturally, I doubt it. But drinking water, avoiding salt and caffeine can help easy cramps and bloating. Light exercise is good for pain so take a walk around the block if you can.

If they are still overly painful and heavy, you should see a doctor because that could be a serious problem or turn into one. I'm sure you can find a birth control that will work well for you. It's common to have irregular periods at a young age.
