If he just started walking let him get use to being mobile, and using his feet, and balancing. My 11 month old daughter has been walking for a month and she hates her shoes too. I put booties and socks on her to get her use to having something on her feet. When were out and I know she won't be walking I put her shoes on her to get use to them. Right now though let him get use to his new accomplishment.

Take them off! Those little feet only need shoes when he is outside and needs them protected. Then, buy the little guy some easy wearing soft sneakers or something, simply to protect his feet. Children no longer must wear the old laced, high top, hard walking shoe. I am surprised that your pediatrician hasn't mentioned this to you. Don't try to make a Little Lord Fauntleroy out of this little guy. Make him happy, and he will eventually adjust to proper footwear (whatever is necessary for his health and comfort). Relax. Put some not skid socks on him for home wear. And, some jammies with feet that have non skid surfaces.

If he's just started walking then I wouldn't put him in shoes apart from to go out of the house to keep his feet warmer. When they start walking the whole idea is that the feet and toes get used to how to wiggle and spread out so that they can hold their weight evenly so shoes might be stopping him from doing this until he gets more confident. I got some of those nice thick cosy sock things (with the little pads on the bottom for a bit of extra grip) just until they got a bit more confident.
Good luck....the fun has just begun!!!

As long as the shoes have a good sole on them and seem to have some support in the inside the brand doesn't matter! Don't let people trick you into thinking you need the $70 baby shoes! It's ridiculous.

Of course he hates wearing them he wasn't born with shoes on. Keep them on him, let him cry, let him have his "tantrums". Don't take them off of him. Once he learns that crying isn't going to get the shoes off he'll start walking in them. Although I didn't get my daughter shoes until she was 18 months old. I let her run around barefooted, and when time came to put shoes on she did so willingly.

try getting gym shoes. I just let my son run in socks until he was ready some people think that is pretty redneck but hey i dont want to be uncomfortable neither does he so why force it? he is not going to school or anything.just be carful where he walks and if in a store with slick floors (most) take socks off so they dont slip n slide. good luck!

They make shoes for babies that are really soft leather. It is almost like being barefoot and are the best things for them. Here is the link.

he just has to get use to them. I have an 11 month old who started walking last month. I actually started putting shoes on him at 9 months to get them use to it. He hated them at first and would scream everytime I put them on...but eventually (after a couple days, maybe weeks) he'll be fine with them.

I would start with a loafer or very soft shoe and work into something with more support.

Have you tried Robeez shoes? You can buy them online, they're little leather slippers, very durable and slip resistant and my kids loved them.
