Does anybody know the name of the book where it is a story of a boy who is by himself and the story follows him as he walks across what I remember is Europe and I think it is during the war. I am afraid this is all I have to go on. I read it during my standard grades in Scotland!

I am sure the book is called 'I am David' though I can't remember the author. He escapes from some kind of camp and walks across Europe looking for his mother. It is one of the best books I have read.

Brilliant book and still available
The boy was called Jan
Think the author was Ian Serillier (or some such)

If the book you are talking about is called "I Am David" it is by Ann Holm. The link to the description of the book from Amazon.com is listed below.

from the brief information you have given it sounds like 'The Silver Sword' by Ian Serraillier. I also read this story at secondary school.

I think you might be thinking of "I am David" (can't remember who it's by). Did he start off in Salonika, and head across Europe? I loved that book!

If you can remember Warsaw and The Danube, it was probably the Silver Sword.
