It happens all the time with:
- religious folk
- nazis
- radical Islamic terrorists
- radical Republicans
- global warming disbelievers
- anyone who is stuck on their own theory, which pretty much includes everyone listed above.
People who don't have an open mind and refuse to listen are the worst. I can teach a mule how to be stubborn, but at least I will hear you out. The problem I have is when they don't listen to what I am saying. When that happens, the best thing to do is to agree to disagree, and walk away.
Some people are so stuck on their own ideas and theories that a 10-ton crane won’t be able to move it. That’s one of the problems with moderates, they will calmly listen to you, even if you are foaming at the mouth on the subject and then when they get a free second they will try to give their own opinion. Usually the rabid believers will just shout them down and continue to spot their beliefs past the point where normal people would stop listening (oh these rabid believers love to hear themselves talk).
Another thing we moderates have to contend with is that after hearing this same nonsense from several people we stop listening to them. Then they have the nerve to claim that we have a closed minds.
As for that "retard" who makes you angry why don't you just tell him that we agree to disagree and walk off. If he continues then just repeat the slogan (these rabid people all understand slogans like this, sometimes it is all they understand). I would also alternate that phrase with "I may not agree with what you say, but I will die for your right to say it. Just don't say it to me, I have had all I can take."

No matter what it is I still usually correct them, it drives me nuts when I hear people telling others the wrong information. I keep hoping that once I say it enough it'll sink in.
But sometime I have to stop trying too.

It is an art to let people know that there is a better way of doing something than the one they are using. 9 times out of 10 the direct approach is the wrong one. It puts people's backs up and makes them stubborn.
Softly softly catchy monkey!

Yes.
Another verbal sleight-of-hand is when they adopt what I am saying and insist that it is what they said/did in the first place.
I have concluded that the only time I shall bother to offer assistance/correction/clarification is when I'm being paid to do so, or when there is some harm involved to myself or something that interests me.

They try to, but other than see them embarrassed elsewhere I just have to tell them they are wrong even if it annoys them, I don't think I am clever but I won't have them thinking they are either then making a total fool of themselves and it is less draining too.

Oh... you've met my brother?
The worst thing is when someone asks you a question, and then disagrees with your answer. It's like they are looking for a fight!
