not so much a genius as an innovator. You should listen to My people Were fair or Unicorn to hear some of the most inventive music recorded. T Rex and the whole glam thing was not really indicative of the best Bolan could produce, which would have become his downfall eventually anyway. He became a one trick pony. Can you imagine him doing come back concerts now singing Born to Boogie and Solid Gold Easy Action? Preposterous. Best to remember Tyrnnosaurus Rex and the effite warblings of a one off star who got fame, got loaded and got dead.

he was a bit posh, not quite your rough and ready bloke, a bit of a sweetheart really but i liked Hot love and Born to Boogie and Get it on. No he wasn't a genius but good at the time. Oh and Ride a white swan was great also. Yeah good to dance to at weddings and disco's

I think his iconic status is largely related to his early death like any other 'died young' pop, film etc hero. He was good and very good looking but I think if he was still with us, he would probably be no more famous that other 70's pop stars who have gone on to other things (ie Noddy Holder) or just faded away into pop obscurity.
