Foley's relationship with the 16 year old page was reported to the House Republican leadership 10-11 months ago by the Congressman who the page worked for, Republican Rodney Alexander of Louisiana. The Republican leadership did nothing.
Foley's "gallant" resignation came only after his opponent made the allegations known to the press. So much for "doing the right thing." Republicans like to think they are so much more righteous than their Democrat counterparts, but the reality is that there is at least as much, and probably more slime in the Republican party.
The word is "hypocrite," and it is an apt description for all of the Republicans who continue to bash Clinton for his dalliance but who covered up Foley's mess. Shame on all of them.

Foley resigned from the House of Representatives on September 29, 2006 after the publication of e-mail messages that he had sent to a 16-year-old male page in 2005 and the disclosure by ABC News of sexually explicit Internet instant messages from Foley to former male pages. Rep. Foley said in a statement, "I am deeply sorry and I apologize for letting down my family and the people of Florida I have had the privilege to represent." [5]

I just read that article and there certainly didn't seem to be anything resignation-worthy. My guess is that his political opponents saw an opportunity to freak people out and make him think he was a pedophile, and even though he knows he isn't, he is backing down before they keep looking into it and find out private (but not criminal) things he doesn't want publicized. Maybe, for example, he is gay, and doesn't want that made public. But that does NOT make him a pedophile!!! I don't know the whole story of course and this is just my opinion but from what I read, that's the impression I got.

He's a corrupt liar just like all Republicans.
It's bad they don't all do the right thing and resign like Foley.

Dateline NBC was about to bust him so he resigned to spare the humiliation and the arrest.
